Therapeutic ultrasound (TUS) is a device used to heat deep tissues such as muscles, tendons and nerves to improve flexibility following muscle injury. Thus, TUS is effective in addressing scar tissue, joint restriction, muscle spasm, and chronic soft tissue injuries. Unlike cold laser that uses light energy, therapeutic ultrasound uses sound energy. As the sound waves move through tissues, absorbed energy is converted into kinetic energy which leads to heat and increase in blood perfusion to the affected area. Interestingly, it’s non-thermal effects also improves nerve healing.
