Photobiomodulation, otherwise known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or cold laser, is a supplemental modality that we routinely use to promote tissue repair in skin, blood vessels, muscles and ligaments, and nerves by way of a unit that emits a controlled and collimated spectrum of low light. This light energy is absorbed by the light-absorbing molecules (chromophores) found in ours cell’s mitochondria that causes the biological effects that promote wound healing. In doing so, photobiomodulation also affords pain relief. Conditions such as wounds, sprains and strains, musculoskeletal injuries, and arthritis are conditions for which cold laser has proven to be most beneficial. The cold laser unit that we use at Nautilus Pet Rehabilitation is a class IV laser, the safest and up to date technology.
